Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio. In December 1778, he moves for the first time to France, where he joins the College of Autun. He enters the military school of Brienne in May 1779 and in October 1784, the Royal School of the Champ de Mars. His father died in February 1785. In autumn, Napoleon receives his first assignment as a second Lieutenant, in Valence. He comes back to Corsica in 1786, during a first discharge. In 1788, he is sent as a Lieutenant in garrison at Auxonne, in Burgundy.
