Antoine-Henri Jomini was born at Payerne, Vaud canton, Switzerland, on March 6, 1779.

He fought as a General for the French Empire until 1813, then for Russia.

He died at Passy on March 22, 1869, and was buried  in the 11th division of Montmartre Cemetery.
